The market is being established by the Victorian Farmers’ Market Association and the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria; an exciting combination of two organisations with the future and good health of local agriculture firmly in their sights. Unlike anything other fresh food shopping, farmers’ markets bring a true slice of rural life to the city and provide the Melbourne community an opportunity to meet and support regional producers’ direct.  
 
 
The first market in April will feature the colourful array of Autumn fruits and vegetables such as field tomatoes, apples, kiwifruit, potatoes, mushrooms, strawberries, eggplant, fennel and herbs plus free range meat and eggs, olives and olive oils, sourdough breads, nuts, jams and chutneys, honey, fresh dairy products and handmade cheeses, wines, seedlings and flowers.  And that’s just the beginning….
 
This is Melbourne’s first farmers’ market to be established with Victorian Farmers’ Market Association accreditation - a guarantee that stallholders grow or make the goods they sell and that the quality of produce is of the utmost importance. There’ll be no craft stalls or jumping castles to distract from this seriously good food expedition but there will be plenty for kids to enjoy because farmers’ markets are a wonderful food adventure for all.
 
Held inside the historic Federation building and around its courtyard, the farmers’ market will be accessed through Gate 7 Leonards Cres off Langs Road. Easy parking is available almost at the door at $3 per vehicle. This market will be plastic bag free so BYO your trolley, basket or shopping bags. 
 
Dogs are most welcome to come and join us at the Melbourne Showgrounds Farmers Market but they must be on a lead at ALL TIMES. Owners take full responsibility of their dogs during their visit and MUST ensure they behavior appropriately in public and please clean up after them should they mess in the grounds. We want the market to be visited by all including our four legged friends.
