 Heathcote Bush Market, 04-01-2014

We have only just visited this market for the first time and did not know what to expect.
It turned out to be a very good general market indeed with an estimated 40 stalls meandering around the perimeter of the sporting oval. Well shaded and with the town shopping on the opposite everything was easy to access.
The stalls were pretty much typical country style with a bit of everything from fresh produce, art and craft, second-hand goods etc. . Many stalls are obviously run by locals with hardly any of the usual "camp followers" seen elsewhere.
Heathcote is a short drive from Bendigo or about an hour from Melbourne. We suggest that you combine your visit to this market with the nearby (50 km) Nagambie market so that you'll have a very full and rewarding day of it. Bendigo also has a weekly Sunday general market if that suits you better.
Heathcote has some excellent lunchtime eateries including several excellent bakeries. If you are interested in wine then the area is well serviced by well-known wineries. The tourist Info office is on site.
Being based in Bendigo (central to everything, it seems) we would probably expect to visit this market 3 times per year. That indicates top marks from this duo of market baggers.
We've rated this market as 4 stars simply because it could even be better the next time.
