One of the best country markets, 19-04-2015

Review:
We rate this market highly as it is always well worth a visit.
Be aware though, that nestled as it is in the foothills of the Great Divide the weather can be rather changeable, quite windy and sometimes slightly chilly, even in summer.
Clearly it is a Farmers Market combined with Art and Crafts. This is intended by the organisers as you will not see any pre-owned or trash and treasure at all.. What you may notice are multiple stalls selling similar products, yet each distinctly different. The stalls seem to go on forever but could well number over 100.
Free samples in great abundance! All presented in a very pleasing and enticing manner.
A good number of quality garden and plant sellers along with soaps, medicines, jewellery, books, jams, olive oil, wines and woodworking do a good job in promoting their wares.

You may get to feel a bit peckish, and who doesn’t with all this going on around you? There is a very wide range of tempting foods that will certainly please everyone. Certainly we find it hard to limit our indulgence..
We suggest you get going on your shop prior to 10 am as stalls closely line the park laneway on both sides and as the foot traffic picks up, so the progress becomes more demanding.
Being in close proximity to Melbourne it is easy to see why this market is very classy yet remains unpretentious. To our mind the vendors themselves are as happy to be there as they are to see you.

There is another market running concurrently up in the IGA car park, a block or so on the other side of the main road. This is very much what the other is not, plenty of pre-loved and sought after collectors’ items.
As with any T & T type market the number of stalls seems to be always somewhat less just before Christmas and until the New Year holidays are over. It was on Jan 5th, about 60% of what you usually see. The main market does not seem to so affected.

While it isn’t a market as such, just in the doorway at IGA is one of the biggest $2 shops we have ever seen.
Gisborne has plenty of eateries if you aren’t fully topped up at the markets.

No other markets relatively nearby on their day that we know of.
Even if you don’t buy anything this market (and the other) remains one of our “must-do’s”
